This is a classical one-day trek often recommended for acclimatizing before starting a longer or higher trek. Only 20 km to the East of Huaraz on the road to the villages of Llupa and Pitec, this lake is one of the most beautiful and one of the lakes well-known and more tourist affluence for a good acclimatization hike for trekking. From Pitec the trail goes steady climb to Churup Lake (4 450masl), a beautiful turquoise lake below Churup Mountain. It is quite a strenuous hike, with the final 100m to the lake scrambling up a steep rock gully.
